Philosophy

Mission Statement

The mission of the school counselors at Lakeside High School is to provide a comprehensive, developmentally age-appropriate and sequential school counseling program that is aligned with the ASCA national standards for school counseling programs.  The program will focus on the needs, interests and issues related to the stages of student growth through academic, career and personal/social development.  In partnership with students, staff, family, community and workforce, we will prepare students to become effective learners, achieve success in school, live successful and rewarding lives, and develop into contributing members of our society. 
 


Vision

The vision of the school counselor at Lakeside High School is that students will have acquired the knowledge, skills and attitudes to reach their fullest potential and successfully manage their lives as healthy, responsible, competent and productive citizens who respect themselves and others.
 
 

Philosophy

The Lakeside High School Counseling Department believes:
* Achievement is possible for every student and all students can succeed with proper support.
*All students learn in their own unique way, therefore it is the counselor's responsibility to treat students as individuals.
*All students’ ethnic, cultural, racial, sexual differences and special needs are considered in planning and implementing the school counseling program.
*All students at LHS will have access to a full-time, state certified, masters-degree-level school counselor to deliver the counseling program.
*The role of the counselor is to aid parents/guardians, staff and community members to ensure the success of all students.
 
And that the Lakeside High School comprehensive school counseling program should:
*Be based on specific goals and developmental student competencies for all students 9-12.
*Be planned and coordinated by the school counselor in conjunction with other school, parent/guardian, and community representatives.
*Use data to drive program development and evaluation resources.
 
And that the counselors at Lakeside HS:
*Abides by the professional school counseling ethics as advocated by the American School Counselor Association.
*Participates in professional development activities essential to maintain a quality school counseling program.
*Provides academic, career and personal/social development for every student.
