Lakeside Student is Special Guest at Elks Monthly Meeting

Michael Hendricks, a Lakeside High School student was invited to be special guest on Thursday at the Ashtabula Elks monthly meeting. Michael has cerebral palsy which he was born with. Michael was invited to the meeting as an inspiration to others and an example of the Ohio Elks major project for Cerebral Palsy Treatment. Every year Ohio Elks lodges around the state raise tens of thousands of dollars to aid CP Treatment Centers who help patients and their families manage Cerebral Palsy.

The Elks invited him because he is an example of someone that works through challenges positively through the support of his school, family, and friends. Michael, thank you for inspiring others through your goal setting , following your dreams, passion, and positivity in all you do!

Standing with him is Elks member Al Sidbeck.

End of Course Testing April 14th

Below is a message from Dr. Perkins regarding End of Course Exams:

Tomorrow, Thursday April 14th Lakeside High School will continue the State of Ohio's End of Course Assessments. Thursday's plan is for scholars who are listed to take the Biology exam to attend. They are scheduled to report to school Thursday at our normal school time (8:30 am) to take their test.

Once at school, students will be reporting to their designated testing rooms. The test will begin promptly at 9:00 am and end @ 11:15. Scholars who are testing Thursday will be dismissed @ 11:20, Busing as well as a grab n go lunch will be provided at dismissal.

All other scholars who are not testing tomorrow will be on "remote" learning for the day. I will also be sending an attachment with the testing list for parents to review if their scholar has testing on said date.

Lastly, there will be a slight change in the policy for borrowing a chromebook or charger on testing days. Starting on Thursday, April 14th, scholars will have to exchange your cell phone for a school device (chromebook or charger). Scholars will receive your phone back when you return the device to the cart. The cart itself will be locked and put into a room that will stay locked. The cart will be secure during the testing session.

Please make sure to have your issued devices with you and charged up ready to go. Our "extra" chromebook and charger numbers are limited, so please do your best to have your issued device ready to go on test day. Thank You all for your cooperation. Have a great day and good luck on your upcoming tests!

Below and attached is the list of students that need to test for tomorrow.
Thank you and have a good evening.

Students Simulate Tradition and Culture

Lakeside High School Spanish 2 and Spanish 3 classes have been learning about the Castells in Tarragona, Spain. studying their traditions and culture. One of the cultures and traditions is that of building a castell. This is a yearly competition held in August to celebrate the feast of San Magín. This is an event where teams compete to build the tallest human towers. Competitors range in age from as young as 5 through their 70's. There is a base level, called the "pinya", that serves to lift others up to form "pisos", or levels. The average Castell is about 7 "pisos" high.

Lakeside students created a simulation using plastic cups and worked together in teams with the goal of creating a largest tower.

A castell is actually a human tower built traditionally in festivals, however, originated in the 18th century. A castell is considered built when one climber rises to the top and raises one hand with four fingers erect, symbolizing the Catalan flag. Here is a YouTube link to an example showing how these human towers are created: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQM4qbwyxCM
